“LIGHTSEEKERS”, the personal exhibition of Ion Iancut at Senso Galley

In the period May 8 - June 6, 2019, Senso Gallery will be hosting the “LIGHTSEEKERS” exhibition, belonging to the artist Ion Iancut. Coming from the commune of Raducaneni, Iasi County, Ion Iancut graduated from “Nicolae Grigorescu” Institute of Visual Arts from Bucharest (class of 1974). He has been a member of the Visual Artists’ Union of Romania (UAP) since 1977, and in 1982 he was granted the UAP Award for Sculpture.

Between 1974 and 2017 he had more than 25 personal exhibitions in Bucharest, throughout the country, as well as abroad.

Ion Iancut has been granted numerous awards and honours for his artistic work over a period of more than 45 years: The “Amfiteatru” Magazine Award (1976), the Grand Prize at the Sculpture Symposium from Burgas (Bulgaria, 1979), the Prize for Sculpture at the Small Sculpture Biennial from Budapest (1981), 1st Prize at the International Sculpture Symposium Mtheta, Georgia (1989), the Prize for Ambiental Sculpture - Sibiu (1993). He was also awarded the honour “Una Cultura per Europa” by the Italian Cultural Institute (1985), the “Dantesca” Gold Medal, at Ravena (Italy, 1990) and the “Teiul de Aur” Eminescu Award for Visual Arts, for the work “Omnia in arta plastica” (“Omnia in Visual Arts”), Botosani.

“The world of Ion Iancut, coherent, exemplary, and original, is three-dimensionally embodied within the exhibition opened at Senso Gallery by impeccably cast and finished bronze - the polished surfaces acquire particular finicalities - and two-dimensionally, by the oils or pastels which add colour to the artfully contoured shapes. The ink drawings rely on the sureness and fluency of the line” Doina Păuleanu, PhD, doctor in the history of art and art critic.

Supported by Fildas Art and Catena, through the Catena for Art programme, the opening of the exhibition was hosted by Doina Pauleanu, manager of the Museum of Art from Constanta.

Bringing art closer to you – is our gallery’s slogan, and, in its name, we have set to achieve the most representative selection of authors and works. The exhibitions held at Senso Gallery are part of a complex programme, generously open to al - Catena for Art - whereby we hope that an assumed cultural vocation manifests itself, in an authentic and original manner. We will continue, in 2018 as well, to organize reference events in Bucharest’s cultural landscape” – Senso Art Gallery, Bucharest

Senso Art Gallery (15 Unirii Blvd. sector 5, Bucharest) started the year by hosting highly successful cultural events - the exhibition “Contemporary Jewel”, where the most talented designers of concept contemporary jewellery exhibited their works, as well as the personal exhibition “Pictograms II” of the artist Dan Constantinescu.
